The IMPS 2009 conference was held in the Fisher Building at St John's College, the second largest of the constituent Colleges of the
The Fisher Building is the central feature of the College's Conference Centre. Built in 1987, it is named after John Fisher, who founded the College in 1511 AD . It contains a multi-purpose hall for concerts and lectures, art and music rooms and some administrative offices as well as extensive dining and entertainment facilities.
Conference facilities comprise an auditorium with seating for up to 300, and three lecture rooms for groups of up to 80, as well as several smaller meeting rooms. Rooms and auditorium are fitted with full audio visual technology, and wireless broadband connectivity is available throughout.



Additional facilities are provided by the School of Pythagoras. Built around 1200 AD as a private house, it is now one of the oldest buildings in England. Its name derives from the early period in the development of the University when it was used for giving lectures in geometry. It contains two rooms, the Uppercroft which seats up to 80 as a lecture theatre, and the Undercroft.



St John's Conference Centre is fully residential, with a wide range of very comfortable residential accommodation, with additional rooms available in nearby Colleges. There is a choice of single and twin bedded rooms, each with wash basin, tea and coffee making facilities, towels and toiletries. Most of the bedrooms have en-suite facilities, and all rooms have views that overlook the College grounds.



There are tennis and squash courts availaible for delegate use for a small charge. A multigym and snooker room are located beneath the Fisher Building. A Fitness Centre offering a full range of equipment is situated in the adjacent New Court of the College. College punts are available for hire.
Cambridge is a short distance from the City of London and has a wide variety of leisure activities including shopping and excursions. there are various ways of getting to Cambridge; by road, rail or air.
