What better way to celebrate IMPS 2009 than by attending a reception, at one of Cambridge’s institutions, surrounded by an exhibition dedicated to one of the University’s most famous sons?

2009 is the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species. Developed by The Fitzwilliam Museum in association with the Yale Center for British Art,  the exhibition Endless Forms: Charles Darwin, Natural Selection and the Visual Arts offered an intriguing new perspective on the cultural resonance of Darwin’s theories.

'Science meets art in this ground-breaking exhibition revealing an unusual and previously unexplored aspect of Charles Darwin’s legacy - the impact of his theories upon artists of the late nineteenth century. This landmark exhibition explored both Darwin’s interest in the visual arts and the vast range of artistic responses to his revolutionary ideas, through an astonishingly diverse selection of exhibits from around the world.'

Opened in 1846, the Fitzwilliam Museum has been described as: 'one of the greatest glories of the University of Cambridge. It is a museum of international stature, with unique collections most splendidly housed...it is part of a living and continuing culture.'

Delegates enjoyed drinks and canapés at a private reception for conference delegates. Music was provided by the Hayward Trio.
